Storage is possibly one of the most important aspects of any home interiors. We all want our properties to look their absolute best so we want to avoid having lots of clutter and bits and bobs hanging around the place.
The kitchen is one room of the house where storage is super important. You need to make full use of all cupboards, draws and shelving in your kitchen areas. It’s a good idea to install hooks where you can hang items such as mugs, pans and utensils out of the way – a popular place to do this is above a breakfast bar or kitchen island.
Fill any gaps. If there’s space between a fridge and a wall, build yourself some skinny shelving that can hold canned goods and simply slide it out as and when you need it. If you have a kitchen island and it’s possible, make it a hollow one where you can store recipe books, bowls and other bits and pieces.
Display stylish wire baskets above cabinets or on worktops full of condiments, fruit or bottles and cans.
Another room of the house where clutter can easily gather is the lounge. A quick way to tidy up is to invest in a coffee table with draws/shelving where magazines, books and remote controls can be stored.
Smart shelving is also a great idea – filling an entire wall with shelving is a popular trend at the moment and painting the wall a bright colour really makes it a bit of a feature in a lounge. Almost anything can be stored on the shelves from books and DVDs to photo frames and small houseplants.
The bathroom is a particularly tricky area of the house when it comes to storage. The bathroom can often be much smaller so the trick is to be clever about your storage methods. Any towels, flannels, robes can be stored in bathroom cupboards. It can be tricky to fit cupboards and drawers into a small room so you could use bathroom shelving as an alternative – the best place for this is somewhere that would be considered a dead area. Next to the loo, above a towel rail or in a corner.
A cupboard placed underneath a sink is another great way to gain storage without losing space. There are many you can buy these days that are made specifically for fitting around sinks.
