Learn to make lampshades from a pro

Posted by Cato Cooper on

If you would like to learn a new skill you can make your own lampshades at workshops hosted by expert Pippa Brewer, who owns the unit Toodlepip here in the shop, on March 21 and April 10 from 7pm until 9pm.

Pippa, whose company sells handmade toyboxes and lampshades, said: “Last year (2016) I hosted workshops, which were extremely successful, so I thought I would host some more again this year for anyone who missed out last time.

“They are a great opportunity for people to learn a new skill and they will be able to take their creations home with them afterwards.”

Each workshop will last two hours and will cost £40 per person. You will learn how to make your own 30cm or 20cm lampshade that can be hung from the ceiling or used on a lampstand. All they need to bring with you is a minimum of half a metre of your chosen fabric.

The lampshades can be made with cotton, linen or upholstery fabric, as long as it is not too thick. There will also be a selection of fabrics available to purchase on the night.

The workshops are suitable for beginners. Payment is required up-front before the workshop takes place. To secure your space, please contact Cato or Karen at The Emporium Somerset on 01823 660076.

Pippa’s workshops are great fun and ideal for anyone who wants to learn a new craft. We hope lots of people come along and they can really make a night of it by inviting friends too.
