Kit & Kaboodle has been a part of The Emporium family since February, 2016. The brains behind the business, Yvonne Ruhle, spends her time beachcombing in order to make furniture and home accessories from driftwood or recycled wood. She also makes items from seaglass, shells, cork floats and rope.
The majority of the materials used come from the beaches of Scotland, where Yvonne has a cottage on the Moray Firth, which she visits often.
She created Kit & Kaboodle after becoming tired of the rat race of senior management. She decided to bite the bullet and take a chance on running her own business.
We recently sat down for a quick chat with Yvonne to find out more…
What’s your favourite daytime drink, tea or coffee or do you prefer something else?
Good strong tea but with plenty of milk too.
What do you enjoy most about making/creating/what you do?
Taking an idea and making it a reality and seeing someone else appreciate it by buying it and loving it too.
Name one thing you couldn’t live without and why?
My workshop – everything is created in there and it's a treasure trove of goodies yet to be used in a project.
What is the most important tool to help you when you’re crafting/creating/working?
My new super duper DeWalt cordless screwdriver – love it, love it, love it!
In a normal week, how much time do you spend making/crafting/working in your business?
30 – 50 hours.
When you’re not working what else do you like to do?
I watch over a 92-year-old lady, popping in a couple of times a week whenever possible to give her a hand with anything she can't manage herself. I also enjoy eating out with my partner Pam and of course spending time in my beloved Scotland scouring those beautiful beaches with Pam and our new puppy.
