Get to know George from OohILikeThatDesign

George joined us with her fantastically fun business, OohILikeThatDesign, in 2015. She is a super talented graphic designer who designs her own greetings cards, stationery, tea towels, prints and more.

George stopped by recently for a quick chat and here’s what she had to say:

“In June, 2014 I decided to use my graphic design knowledge (all of which was taught to me by my father, who was a successful graphic designer) and combined it with my quirky humour to create fun and colourful designs that make you smile.

“Friends and family and every day expressions inspire a lot of my card ranges. Some of my best sellers have come from my friend’s phrases. The deal with my friends is, if they inspire a card, they get it named after them. For example, ‘I am like literally so happy for you’ is my best friend’s saying and so is named the ‘Literally Emma Card’.

“I would say my design style is fun, colourful and quite eye catching. My customers do literally say ‘Ooh... I like that!’ when they pick up my products, which always makes me chuckle when they realise the name of the brand.

“Being my own boss means I get to do a wide range of things and I find that I work best with variation. At the moment it is just me running the business, but I definitely would not have got this far without the support and encouragement from my husband, Sam, who would love us to work together and be able to support ourselves financially doing what we love.

“At the moment there is no typical day, which I love, but I am either creating new designs from my home office, fulfilling or restocking online and wholesale orders, painting and experimenting with new ideas, meeting and emailing potential new clients and of course drinking lots of coffee.

“One of my favourite products is my Bible Alphabet print – it was a lot of fun to create, if not a good challenge. I think it’s such a unique gift, it is also my most popular print.

“My most popular card would have to be the ‘You’re my favourite husband.’

“I’m proud to say all my products are made in the UK and the cards are printed just down the road. It’s important to me, that where I can, I support other local businesses.

“At the moment, I'm not quite sure what the future holds for my business. New products, more shops, worldwide domination, sure, but I have to say at the moment I'm really enjoying the journey.”
