If you’re interested in learning a new craft, why not sign up to workshops being held by experts here during February and March, 2018.

Our Autentico Chalk Paint and interiors expert, Cato Cooper will be hosting ‘an introduction to Chalk Paint’ workshops on Thursday, February 15, Monday, February 26 and Wednesday, March 14 from 7.30pm until 9.45pm, where you can learn the basics of using Autentico Chalk Paint and waxes.

Cato will teach you how to paint your piece of furniture from start to finish with useful handouts and tips included. She will provide wooden boards with some detailing, so that you can try out the different paints and will cover distressing techniques, as well as layering. Everyone who comes along will then be able to take their new skills home with them and makeover their furniture.

Materials such as paints, brushes, boards to paint, waxes, an apron and gloves will be provided in the workshop price as well as refreshments and a picture frame for attendees to paint and take home.

Naomi Stannard, who owns The Crafty Shepherd shop here, will host needle felting workshops on Thursday, February 22 and Thursday, March 22 from 6.30pm until 9.30pm where you will be taught to make a 3D creation of your choice using fibres and wools from Naomi’s own herds of rare breed sheep and Alpacas.

Naomi is a fibre artist specialising in needle felted animals and decorative art. All of the crafts and gifts she makes are made with the fibres from the alpacas and rare breed sheep that she keeps on her family run farm in Somerset, which has more than 40 acres with 300 sheep, with a mixture of 14 different rare and primitive breeds, a herd of 20 alpacas and also a colony herd of English Angora Fibre rabbits.

The farm also houses some of the rarest of breeds with the most endangered being the Boreray sheep with between 300 to 500 in existence. All of the fibres and wools are processed and dyed on the farm using traditional skills and equipment and all of Naomi’s creations can be sourced back to individual animals.

The workshops are suitable for beginners and will cost £40 per person. Payment is required up-front before the workshop takes place. To secure your space, please call us on 01823 660076.

The workshops are great for individuals hoping to learn a new skill and they’re also great for groups of friends who want to have a go at a bit of a different activity from the norm. We welcome people of all ages, so we hope lots of you book up.
